The activeTab permission

Give your extension temporary access to the page a person chooses, right when they need it.

Access begins after a user gesture and is limited to the active tab.

Request access when it matters

Use the active tab to work with page resources in context. Permission is temporary, so your extension can stay focused on the current task.

A few things to know before your first scan.

Read the setup guide
What does Scan page collect?

Stashwell gathers the resource addresses it can access on the current page: images, icons, fonts, links, video and audio, and files. Each resource stays associated with its source page. Some embedded or protected resources may not be accessible.

Does Stashwell scan pages automatically?

Open the panel with Stashwell’s toolbar icon and choose Scan page. Chrome may ask for access to that website. A successful scan starts automatic updates for that tab while it is active and the panel is visible. Close Stashwell to stop updates. Same-origin navigation can update automatically; each new tab or different origin needs another manual scan. Switching tabs only changes the current-page view; it never starts a scan. Collections stay locally in your browser.

Where is my collection stored?

Your collection is stored locally in the browser or extension where you created it. The extension and web library have separate storage. Export a JSON archive to keep a backup or move a collection between them; they don’t sync automatically.

Does a link signal mean a destination is safe?

No. Stashwell checks visible URL patterns on your device and explains clues that may deserve a closer look. These local heuristics are context, not a safety guarantee or an external reputation check.

How do I install the Chrome extension?

Stashwell is currently a developer preview for desktop Chrome 114 or later. Download the ZIP, extract it, turn on Developer mode in Chrome’s extensions page, and choose Load unpacked to select the extracted folder.
